Rose cultivation and pruning

A course dedicated to the queen of flowers: the rose, though the study of botany, history, cultivation and use of the rose in the garden.

The programme for the course is:
- Elements of botany
- A short history of use of the rose in the garden
- Wild roses: the briar rose
- Climbing roses, miniatures and bushes
- Tea hybrids and floribunda roses
- Old roses and modern roses
- Using the rose in the kitchen and in perfume manufacture
- Varieties of roses
- Cultivating techniques and diseases
- How to use roses to best effect in the garden
As part of the course there will be visits to specialised rose gardens and nurseries.
